ABOUT OFIA

Through professional collaboration, OFIA strives to enhance investigative excellence within the field of forensic identification services in the Province of Ontario. Our association is committed to promoting best practices, fostering knowledge sharing, and advancing the professional development of forensic investigators.

 

We aim to provide a platform for networking and learning, ultimately contributing to the continuous improvement of forensic investigation standards in Ontario.

The Ontario Forensic Investigators Association (OFIA) was founded in 2016. It grew from the Golden Horseshoe investigators who identified a need for connection between police services and government agencies involved in forensic investigations.

​

In January 2026, OFIA refreshed its logo and developed a new website to encourage networking and collaboration. ​This design is a modern evolution of the previous logo, refined with simplified elements to reflect the professionalism and direction of forensic identification in Ontario.​

​

The circularcrest and laurel elements evoke law, governance, and accountability. At the centre, the fingerprint and DNA helix represent the foundation of our work: science, individuality, and evidence-based investigation.

​

The trillium remains in the design. As Ontario’s emblem, it grounds the logo locally while also representing renewal and new beginnings, symbolizing growth and the next chapter of OFIA.

​

The use of gold connects to psychology, where it is associated with success, achievement, excellence, wisdom, and illumination. It reflects both the standard our members uphold and the value of the work they do.

The logo was designed by Glenn Dextras, Forensic Artist with the Toronto Police Service. His expertise and attention to detail helped translate OFIA’s values into a clear, professional, and enduring visual identity.

This logo respects our past while clearly signaling modernization, clarity, and investigative excellence.
